IVIG- Lucky #13

I'm baaaack!  Ha- kind of forgot I had a blog to keep up with! We have been non-stop with summer activities- and have had a little trouble with behavioral challenges.

The summer time always brings a change in routine.  As much as we try to keep the kids on schedule, it isn't the same as during the school year, when Hunter can predict activities, follow a pattern of activities, and have the sameness that he desires.

Peter and I both thought, "He doesn't need a summer program!  He's doing so well, functioning so, well, normal, that he can enjoy summer just like any other kid!"

Well, coming back from a super fun vacation with almost zero behaviors, and transitioning to ABA therapy, Interactive Metronome therapy, and new therapists, we have had a few behaviors resurface.  And on top of that, some super early wake-ups.  He found out the password to the tablet, so he started waking up early searching for it.  We changed that password.  Then he found out the password to the computer, and the same routine started until we changed that one as well.  Anytime there was an activity to anticipate, he was waking at 5 or 5:30 ready to start the day- and instead of having a restful night, we ALL woke up cranky and tired.

Even today, with IVIG #13, he was up at 5:30, asking me to pack his backpack and get ready for the hospital.  UGH....I rolled over and asked Peter groggily, "Are we EVER going to feel rested again?  Oh, and happy anniversary!"

Today we also have another reason to celebrate #13- we have been married for 13 years.  Can I say 13 years of wedded bliss?  Of course not.  If anyone says that, they are LYING.  :)  We have been dealt some difficult cards along this road, but I wouldn't change my rock for anything.  I am feeling pretty lucky with number thirteen with my guy-- these are the cards I wouldn't hand back to the dealer.

We planned a date to go out for the night on Saturday, and had our sitter arrive at 7:15.  I would have the kids fed, bathed, in jammies and ready to go as soon as their movie finished.  Well, it took us a little longer to get out the door, so the movie had finished when we were ready to leave.  Hunter had a very hard time turning it off, and ended up slamming his door.  I tried to get him situated before we left, but I knew he was going to give the sitter a hard time.  As we pulled out, we saw him sitting in the upstairs playroom window watching us leave.  We decided to take one more drive through the alley to make sure he was OK- he wasn't there when we passed the second time.  However, when we pulled out in the street, my mother's intuition kicked in and I said to Peter, "You don't think he would leave, would you?"  So as we passed the front of the house, I asked Peter to drive back around our block.   Sure enough, as we were almost to our lot, we saw Hunter storm out of the front door.  I could not believe he actually walked out of the house.  He was completely surprised to see us sitting there in the car, and I made up an excuse about forgetting something.  I walked him back in and just put him to bed.  I could tell his eyes were red from crying, and he said, " I just want YOU mommy!"

When we finally made it to our restaurant, it was a lot later than we had anticipated, so our night had already started off with a bang.  However, we both said the same thing.  "Let's talk about our favorite moments of 2015,"our usual anniversary conversation.  And we had many, many memories to relive.

13 is a number that is a big one in our family.  We all have a 1 or a 3 in our birthdates.  Paige and Hunter were both born on the 13th.

And today, we celebrate two thirteens: the number of IVIGs and our number of married years.

We lost our good friend Arch 5 years ago this past weekend.  Saturday night, we toasted to him and his angel wings that have guided us along the last 5 years since starting Hunter's journey.

Today, as we were pulling out of the driveway, Hunter said, "Look, Mommy!  It's a rainbow on the CD case!"  The sun had hit the plastic case just right to create the beautiful image.

"Of course it is!"  Thanks again, Arch, for bringing the rainbow to us for number 13.

And some pictures to share from the last few busy weeks!

Hunter wanted to cross the lillypads so badly all summer.  He used to get to the part that was missing a pad and just hang there and cry.  He would fall in the water, get angry, yell, and cry again.  Well, he finally did it.  I could NOT believe he made it all the way across.  DETERMINATION!
