Vacation 2014 Part One: Disneyland

I haven't blogged in a long time...might not have any followers anymore! :)  I will update a more journal-type entry soon, but wanted to get some of our trip highlights on the blog.  We left last Wednesday and arrived back home Wednesday late PM.  Our flight was delayed three hours on the way out- and  we were on the plane the entire time.  When we finally landed six hours later, we were all ready to get off and get this party started!!
wrapped little surprises for the kids before we boarded the plane

ready to get off this plane!!!  Going nuts!!!

We went to downtown Disney the first night after a quick swim in the pool.  Rainforest Cafe was a big hit!

Hunter woke at 3:45 AM, despite a later bedtime.  He was filled with excitement and a change of time zones.  We spent the next two hours in the lobby while everyone else slept, and then had breakfast and returned to wake everyone for our fun day at CA Adventureland.  Carsland, here we come!

I researched prior to leaving the disability pass.  We were given a "passport" that allowed us to sign up for rides for our whole family, like a fast  pass.  We probably rode 30 rides the whole day- we would have never made it through the days without the pass.  The longest wait was 30 minutes and it was a struggle.

We heard that Soarin Over CA  was a great ride, so that was our first stop since there wasn't a line and our assigned time for Radiator Springs was thirty minutes later.  We boarded the ride, and I was nervous that he wouldn't like the ride and there wouldn't be anyway off.  Well, the screen lit up, our seats were lifted in the air, and he proceeded to scream for four minutes and thirty seconds until our chairs were brought back to the ground.  Truthfully, I hated the ride as well- I don't like the feeling like I can't get out, like claustrophobia, so I got it-I wanted to scream right along with him.  The moving screen, loud sound effects...all disaster.  He couldn't pull it together after that.  We went to the CARS ride, and he screamed in line and  throughout the ride.  Finally, we found a calming ride and we were back- he enjoyed every ride post.

Lightning Mcqueen rode down the street- the first time we saw him, Hunter only wanted to watch from a distance.  He would not take a picture or get close to him.

Carsland!

still not wanting to take pictures- even with Mater!
Third time was a charm.  Even a smile!!

walking from the swings with Grandpa

this brave girl rode the tall ferris wheel with her daddy- no thanks!

this kid napped in the stroller for two hours- can we say brain overload???

Red, the Firetruck from CARS
Hunter rode every single roller coaster- he loved the one in the back, CA Screamin- even had a loop de loop.  He giggled throughout every ride- to hear his excitement (and the other two as well!) made all of the travel and crazy logistics worth it, even though we had several "how dare yous" when the rides ended (b/c he wanted to go again)!

the loop in the middle

look at those faces- going SO fast!
peyton was so sad he couldn't ride the big roller coaster- so I bought him ice cream.  He was totally fine with that trade!

cars driving on the streets

these two zipped up together- all fun and cute until peyton's neck got caught in the  zipper.  ouch.  end of that snuggle!

Nighttime fun!

Kids fell asleep immediately- we were at the park for fourteen hours!  Overall, a great day! We wouldn't have made it through the park without Grandpa- what a lifesaver!  Disney seems to be a 1:1 ratio at all times. :)

The next day, we surprised them all with Mickey Mouse T-shirts and headed to the bus stop for another day of fun!

We arrived just as the characters were coming out for autographs.  So much fun!  Hunter ran the opposite way, and it was like a nightmare that wouldn't end as these characters almost sought him out- but we made it through and went  straight to check in at our disability kiosk.

tree house!

tea cups- always a fave!

peyton's dream- all the superheroes!

riding the train around the park
famous Disney parade!

played a short duet with this piano man

lots of holding, swinging hands

Driving the cars!  Poor Paige was a little too short to drive  on her own..stop, brake, stop, screech!

Great parades, rides, food...but the park was very crowded and it seemed to be a harder day for Hunter.  He got wet on Splash Mountain and insisted he had to have a new shirt- nothing like spending $30 on a tshirt!

morning comics
The next morning, after sleeping in a bit (well, not Hunter of course), we went to have breakfast with the characters at the Paradise Pier Hotel.  Hunter was nervous about the characters, but was actually more calm than I anticipated.

We snuck Mickey Mouse in on the side for a family picture, so Hunter wouldn't get upset, but he ended up giving him a high five as we left.

"He touched my hand!!"
After breakfast, we packed up the hotel room and headed towards LA for more family, friends, and memories.  To be continued...
