Last day of Autism Awareness Month

So are you aware?  We have had a whole 30 days to acknowledge that Autism exists...and I sure hope people have realized the state of the epidemic we are experiencing.  Here's a few facts...

-Autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys
  • Autism prevalence figures are growing
  • Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
  • Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
  • Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
  • There is no medical detection or cure for autism

  • National Institutes of Health Funds Allocation
    • Total 2012 NIH budget: $30.86 billion
    • Of this, only $169 million goes directly to autism research. This represents 0.55% of total NIH funding.

0.55% of the total funding for a disability that affects 1 in 68.  1 in 42 boys.  To make it hit home, think about your neighborhood block.  More likely than not, someone is experiencing the same hardships that we know all too well.

Have to attach this video.  I haven't ever directly discussed my views on vaccinations, which I plan to do soon, so don't take offense to some of the content.  The overall message is worth your three minutes and 44 seconds.

    Be informed.
    Act.
