Busy week with some comic relief

Can't believe it is Friday already!  We had a therapy filled week- Tuesday was Playgroup, ABA from 11-2, and OT from 3-4.  Playgroup has been a challenge for Hunter- his behavior has seemed to take away from the learning in the class.  He was resistant to go in to the classroom, and then was grinding his teeth the majority of the session.  The chuey tube seemed to be more of an attention grabber ( as he would chew it, then toss it on the floor).  Thursday the teachers kept the tube to the side and only used it if necessary.  Not sure if he finally became comfortable with the classroom, or if he was having a good day, but it was the first successful session for him.  Our nanny had also been napping him on the days prior to playgroup, and I asked her not to nap him this week (because he goes to bed so late if he naps).  Whow knows...the stars aligned and he had a great class!  Kudos to the teachers for working so hard with these children.

We also went to the library Tuesday so Paige could attend a program, and Hunter had fun walking the aisles looking for books.  We were running out of time, so I just randomly grabbed some books off of a few shelves.  As we were getting ready to read our bedtime stories that night, Hunter brought one of my finds to me:

I could not believe this book was in the library!  The full title is, "Where Willy Went, the story of the little sperm!"  I told the kids to pick another book, and they couldn't understand why we couldn't read the story of "the squiggly little worm."  SO not ready for that discussion!

Paige had attended VBS this week, so prior to picking her up on Thursday, our ABA therapist and I took the boys to Kroger to attempt grocery shopping.  I had told her in the beginning of therapy that outings were difficult for us, because we have a hard time leaving certain aisles, or he wants everything in the store.  We did have several meltdowns, lying down in the middle of the cereal aisle because he wanted all of the chex.  I gave him several opportunities to make choices (choices that I designed for him- do you want the milk with the red label or the milk with the green label) and felt like we managed in the store with moderate challenges.  If our therapist hadn't been there, it would have been the usual sight- I would have been holding a crying Hunter and pushing Peyton in the cart.  After we got home, Hunter participated with Miss Lia and seemed to enjoy himself. :)

Last night we had Paige's VBS performance- I went prepared with headphones, snacks, and reinforcers in case it was too loud for Hunter.  We strategically sat in the back in case we needed to do a quick exit.  Hunter's favorite little friend was there, and he actually wanted to go up and join him on stage.  Hunter didn't wear the headphones, but wanted me to cover his ears until the kids finished singing.  The actions and words were projected onto a large screen above the altar, and Hunter did the motions along with everyone else.  Afterwards, there was an ice cream social and Hunter sat again by his friend JP.  He said,, laughing,  "JP!  JP!  You can call me, "HU."  I laughed hysterically because I thought this was so funny and clever at the same time.

Overall a good week and progress documented.  Keep plugging away on the road to recovery! :)
