Summer programs have begun

Tuesday was the first day of Hunter's new playgroup class at a center in the metroplex.  It reminded me so much of a class I did while in graduate school.  The SLP led the class in a greeting song, and then had the students break up into centers where the grad students encouraged each child to interact with the other two peers.  The kids then went to the gym, and then closed with song choices and a goodbye song.  He did fairly well, but one friend was a little loud several times during the session and Hunter responded by taking off his shoes and socks.  The poor student had to put those sweaty socks back on at least half a dozen times.  He also protested, saying "no!" and grinding his teeth- I could hear it in the observation room.  It was disappointing to see him within the small group of children, and not using any speech...he didn't participate in most group activities.  I'm really hoping he isn't so sensitive to noises in future classes and participates with his peers.

As soon as we arrived home, our in-home ABA therapist was waiting for us.  She is a graduate student at one of the colleges in close proximity.  Tuesday was her first day, so it was mostly parent interview, observation, and building rapport.  Hunter loved the attention, though, and she was very animated and tended to his sensory needs with lots of jumping, tickling, and deep pressure input.  She will be here six hours per week, spending time with H and assisting us with parent training.

Fridays will continue to be our OT days...which makes these summer weeks fly by.  We are going to try our hardest to make Friday after OT our fun day/playdate/pool day.  Summer will be over before we know it.

Here's a video from playing one of the best kids (or therapy:)) games- HeadBandz. We love it!
